Description

An ÒElectric CityÓ sign was first erected and illuminated near the turn of the 1900s. It marked Scranton as a progressive, industrial powerhouse that was home to the first electric streetcar in 1886. But as the city’s fortunes later declined, so, too, did the sign. It remained darkened for a few decades until it was restored in 2004, when it was seen as a metaphor for a renaissance of the city and its downtown.
